Programs

Tailored Day Services

Tailored Day Services (TDS) program offers customized services in the areas of post-secondary education, vocational skills, and community integration. Tailored Day Services are designed to maximize the participant’s individualized choices and needs, with customization of day services through individualized services.
The purpose of the Tailored Day Services program is to:

  • Increase the vocational skills and abilities of people who choose, via the Individual Program Plan (IPP) process, to obtain competitive employment and volunteer opportunities, participate in a paid internship, and promote successful employment outcomes;
  • Assist the participants of the program to pursue post-secondary education, and
  • Increase integration and inclusion through development and participation in volunteer activities, increased community access, and awareness.
    Services are provided at a 1:1 staff-to-client ratio.

Employment Services

Adult Work Experience

Adult Work Experience (AWE) program offers a work-based learning experience that provides participants the opportunity to explore competitive integrated work experiences in a variety of real-time work settings. Each person served will be employed on a trial basis per vocational choice to gain hands-on experience and knowledge about the demands of each position. The goal of the program is to assist the persons served in the following areas:

  • Gain confidence, self-advocacy skills, and motivation;
  • Explore community employment opportunities;
  • Obtain employer references and address gaps in work history;
  • Gain exposure to and understanding of the work environment, job responsibilities, and employer expectations;
  • Acquire specific job-related skills and further develop soft skills;
  • Experience receiving pay and managing personal finances, and
  • Experience getting to work through public or private transportation.

Paid Internship Program (PIP) aims to increase vocational skills and abilities via the Individual Program Plan (IPP) process, to participate in a paid internship, and to promote successful employment outcomes.
The goals of the Paid Internship Program include:

  • The acquisition of the experience and skills for future employment, and/or
  • The internship itself to lead to full-time or part-time competitive integrated employment.

Internship placements are made in competitive integrated work environments and consistent with the RC IPP.

Customized Employment

Customized Employment program assists the participant in:

  • Customizing a job description based on current business needs or on previously unidentified and unmet business needs;
  • Developing a set of job duties, a work schedule, specifics of supervision, and determining a job location;
  • Working with the business to facilitate placement and/or assisting the client with self-representation, and
  • Providing services and supports at the job location to ensure successful employment outcome.

Success Stories

Richard “Ricky” has been working as a data entry clerk at ConnectTo Communications, a cable provider in Glendale, for over a decade! Ricky was placed by one of the supported employment job developers at Westview Services who negotiated with the company’s owners to customize Ricky’s job tasks to match his abilities, interests and needs. The job developer also advocated for Ricky so that he could work a set schedule with extensive job coaching and other accommodations that have helped him succeed in his position. Ricky always enjoys his data entry tasks, always tries to complete them to the best of his ability, and is always happy when his totals match at the end of the day! Ricky strives for exceptional accuracy and quality and his job coach provides a lot of support so that he can continue to improve both his hard and soft skills. Ricky likes working and also likes working out — he regularly takes “exercise breaks” when he needs a break from his computer!

Kai has been working his whole life! From putting out trashcans for neighbors to gardening to washing cars, Kai had it covered! He is now using that focus and enthusiasm to succeed in his job as an online shopper at Amazon/Whole Foods. With support from his job developer at Westview Services, Kai learned how to fill out job applications, ace interviews, and be prepared for employer expectations in the workplace. Kay received assistance from Westview’s job coach to learn his tasks as assigned by the employer and succeed in his position. He works a lot of hours and is saving up his paychecks so that he can buy a LEAF electric car! Somehow, Kai still finds time to create artwork for companies that he likes, including Amtrak (his favorite!). It turns out that Amtrak likes Kai right back and has frequently displayed his work on its trains! Kai’s favorite Amtrak routes? The Coast Starlight from Los Angeles to Seattle and the Pacific Coast Surfliner.

Brian began working with Westview Services just after Thanksgiving in 2016 and has never looked back. His supported employment job developer soon placed him as a courtesy clerk at VONS and, with assistance from his vocational specialist, he has proved to be a reliable, motivated and hardworking member of the team. After three years at the front end, Brian’s supervisors asked him to try out barista duties at the store’s Starbucks kiosk and, with coaching assistance, he soon did a great job there, too. So when a position recently became available at the kiosk, management decided to promote him and he is now brewing up lots of coffee 25 to 30 hours per week! Brian likes working at Starbucks (and his pay increase!) and continues to be a valued member of the team.
